Since I moved to Germany, birds have always found their way into my music. The goldfinch is everywhere in Anatolia. It doesn’t fly in a straight line. It bounds, rises, folds its wings, drops, rises again. And it has such an unbelievable voice, so complex, like a natural synthesiser nobody can build. That flight is why the song limps in 9/8. The rest is me trying to see, through its eyes, all the places I haven’t.
